In the wake of the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, Suffolk Legislative Chairwoman Sarah Anker (D-Mount Sinai) is pushing for a study of whether all schools in the county should be required to install "panic buttons" to link them directly with police during life-threatening events. Anker said she will introduce a bill in February to require the police department to complete a study within 120 days addressing cost and technical issues.
