LONG ISLAND — The Federal Emergency Management Agency approved a 14-day extension to the transitional sheltering assistance program, which funds hotel rooms for Sandy victims who cannot return to their homes due to storm damage, according to New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo. The new deadline for checkout is Feb. 10. The registration deadline for New Yorkers to apply for federal aid to cover Sandy damage to Feb. 27, sources said.
