It's apple season again on the island. The orchards are open to visitors and they are welcome to fill bags, pecks or bushels. The hours will change from day to day and week to week depending on weather and the fruit. Here's a rundown of orchards:
The Milk Pail Farm Stand
757 Mecox Rd., Water Mill
Jonamac, McIntosh, Zestar and Sansa are some of the varieties on offer.
Wickham's Fruit Farm Farm Stand
28700 Main Rd. (Route 25), Cutchogue
The berries, peaches and apples can be found in season. Fruit, tomatoes, asparagus, rhubarb and corn are also available.
Davis Peach Farm Farm Stand
561 Hulse Landing Rd., Wading River
More than 80 varieties of peaches, 50 varieties of plums and 30 varieties of nectarines are offered.
Hank's Pumpkintown Farm Stand
240 Montauk Hwy., Water Mill
The place to find 11 varieties of apples, including Macoun, Jonagold and Fuji.
Windy Acres Farm Farm Stand
3810 Main Rd., Calverton
The place to find strawberries, raspberries, peaches and nectarines. Flowers, fruits, vegetables, jellies, jams and roasted corn can be found on weekends.
Lewin Farms Farm Stand
812 Sound Ave., Calverton
Apple pickers will find 13 varieties, including Empire, Mutsu and Granny Smith.
Woodside Orchards Farm Stand
116 Manor Ln., Jamesport
There are 27 varieties of apple, including Braeburn, Golden Delicious and Arkansas Black.
Seven Ponds Orchard Farm Stand
65 Seven Ponds Rd., Water Mill
Dwarf apple trees are easy for kids to reach and red Radio Flyer wagons are available.
Harbes Farm and Orchard Farm Stand
5698 Sound Avenue, Riverhead
In all, 10 varieties of apple are available, including daybreak Fuji and Shizuka.
