MANHASSET –– This time of year children always have tons of leftover candy. Now some Long Island dentists have an incentive to get those leftover sweets from kids by offering them cash. At Dr. Maddie Zapantis' office, they are offering one dollar per pound of candy brought in. The candy is then mailed to overseas troops by the office in cooperation with Operation Gratitude. According to Dr. Zapantis, the idea was started by a dentist in the Midwest and the program has been wildly popular.
