One New York State trooper hung on for his life while being dragged across all three lanes of the Southern State Parkway after a traffic stop and it was all caught on video.

The video shows the state trooper trying to arrest 29-year-old Kareem Kelly after he allegedly refused to cooperate. The bloody struggle ensued right in the middle of oncoming traffic, but finally, the officer regained control and put Kelly in handcuffs.

Here's what some eyewitnesses had to say about the ordeal

"The cruiser was right behind the suspect's car… and he literally just floored it with the cop hanging on.. like you still see the cop's legs," said an eyewitness.

FiOS1 News was told that the state trooper pulled Kelly over just west of Exit 19 after he saw him texting behind the wheel and then realized that Kelly had a suspended license.

While that officer was trying to impound the vehicle, Kelly suddenly floored the gas pedal across three lanes of traffic and crashed into a median. Kelly apparently then tried to run away but was chased down by the trooper and two passing drivers who got out of their cars to help.

Investigators say that crash shut down parts of the Southern State for hours.

The Jamaica, Queens native was arraigned Thursday morning on several felony and misdemeanor charges including assault, reckless endangerment, and resisting arrest.

The officer had several cuts to his head for which he received stitches, but he is expected to fully recover.
