NYPD officers escort fallen sergeant's son on his first day of kindergarten in Huntington

Austin Tuozzolo’s father was killed in the line of duty

As the bus came down the street to pick up the kids for school in Huntington on Tuesday morning, one little boy got a very special send off by NYPD officers.

The officers were there to put Austin Tuozzolo on the bus for his first day of kindergarten.

Austin's dad Sergeant Paul Tuozzolo was killed in the line of duty last year.

Tuozzolo was responding to a call in the Bronx when he was gunned down by a Brentwood man. The exchange of fire left the gunman dead and another sergeant wounded.

He was a 19-year veteran of the NYPD and left behind his wife Lisa and two children.

To keep his memory alive, the Patches4paul group is encouraging people to go to to get a patch for Paul and post a picture of themselves wearing it on their Facebook page so his family is reminded of the love and support.

All of the officers present for Austin’s first day say they will always be there for Sgt. Tuozzolo's family.
