Oyster Bay increasing patrols to deter drunk boating

Officials say that the holidays are often dangerous due to people drinking too much behind the wheel

The holiday weekend will bring many people on Long Island to the water to enjoy the last few days of summer, and officials in Oyster Bay are hoping boaters do it safely and legally.

"Our Bay constables have a busy weekend ahead patrolling the Long Island Sound, Oyster Bay, the Great South Bay, in an effort to stop drunken boaters and keep our waterways safe," Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino said.

Town officials ay that the holidays are often a dangerous time due to people drinking too much and getting behind the wheel of a car, or, sometimes, a boat. As a result, town officials have announced that there will be a increase in patrols on the lookout for intoxicated boaters.
