Some LIRR riders say so far so good as Penn Station repairs enter 2nd week

Commuters tell FiOS1 News they had to make adjustments around the summer schedule

The second week of the Long Island Railroad's summer schedule begins as repairs are made to tracks at Penn Station.

Many commuters say besides being a little more crowded than usual, the trains, so far, haven't been as bad as they expected.

The first week of the LIRR's summer schedule had many commuters bracing for late or cancelled trains. But some say so far so good.

From now through Labor Day, fewer trains will be running to and from Penn Station as Amtrak needs the track space to make repairs to rails at the hub. Riders are adjusting to the new train schedule.

Some commuters think many may have taken off from work during the first week of the summer LIRR schedule to avoid the transition. Fingers are crossed the seemingly smooth rides keep going.

So far, trains are running on or close to schedule on Monday. Amtrak officials say the repair work should finish on time. The train schedule should be back to normal by Labor Day.
