Police say substitute teacher Aimee Otero, 25, of Coram inappropriately touched a 16-year-old male student in April in one of the classrooms at Rocky Point High School.

Suffolk County police say Rocky Point Union Free School District administrators contacted them about the substitute touching the student. After an investigation, police arrested Otero. She's charged with third-degree sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child.

In a letter home to parents, the school superintendent Dr. Michael Ring says the district was made aware of the allegations by the student, that the accused substitute had passed all background checks, and has worked for the district since 2015.

Ring also says "based on these allegations and subsequent arrest, this person will no longer work for the district."

Otero will be formally charged at a later time.
