Weather alert: Flood watch in effect for Long Island as Nor’easter arrives

FiOS1 News Meteorologist Brian Fitzgerald has details on what is expected


LONG ISLAND — A powerful nor’easter will bring rain, wind, flooding, and wet snow to the area Friday.

A high wind warning is in effect from now through 6 a.m. Saturday for all of Long Island. Winds may gust as high as 60 miles per hour. Impacts will include tree damage, power outages, and difficult travel.

A coastal flood warning is in effect for all communities along the North Shore, South Shore back bays, and ocean front until Saturday morning. Moderate coastal flooding is expected during high tide cycles with a storm surge of up to four feet.

A flood watch is also in effect for all of Long Island through 6 a.m. Saturday. Rain totals of one to three inches with poor drainage flooding are expected.

A period of wet snow is also possible for Friday afternoon and evening.
