NY Liquor Authority: West Babylon bar hosted illegal gambling, did not buy alcohol legally

Officials say Maggies suspended after code violations and other issues

A West Babylon bar is now closed after a string of issues and code violations.

According to the State Liquor Authority, Maggie’s played host to illegal gambling, and violence.

In addition, they found that the bar was not keeping efficient books or records, and that they were not purchasing their liquor from an authorized source.

Those are just a few of the issues named in a release put out by the Authority. In all, they charged the bar with 33 violations of the alcohol and beverage control law, this past Monday.

Officials say the fire marshal condemned the building after finding electrical hazards, no lighting near the exit signs, and compressed gas being stored near the hot water heater.

And just this summer alone, authorities say they were called to the bar on four separate occasions for instances involving guns, and fights that had broken out on the premises.

Investigators also say they found illegal gambling equipment throughout the bar.

No word yet on how long this suspension will last.

Attempts to contact the owners of the bar were unsuccessful, and the liquor authority did not immediately return a request for an interview.
