Friends, family remember Yonkers firefighter who died from 9/11-related illness

Neill Tyndal Jr.'s funeral will be held on Monday at St. Barnabas Church in the Bronx

Firefighters, police officers, family and friends gathered in Yonkers on Saturday to pay tribute to fallen firefighter Neill Tyndal Jr.

Tyndal went to Ground Zero follow the 9/11 attacks to aid with the recovery effort, and passed away earlier this week from a 9/11-related illness.

"He was a fun guy," Capt. James Wazolek, of the Yonkers Fire Department, said. "Always had a practical joke, always made you laugh. If you knew he was working, you knew you were going to have a good day."

A husband and father of two, Tyndal was also remembered as a man devoted to his family.

Tyndal's funeral is scheduled for Monday. His family is asking for donations to be made in his honor to the Ronald McDonald House.
