Hengjun Chao sentenced to 28 years for shooting ex-boss outside of Chappaqua deli

Dr. Dennis Charney was shot outside Lange’s deli earlier last year as he was grabbing morning breakfast


On the morning of August 29th 2016, Chao fired several rounds from a 20-gauge shotgun at the medical school dean. Charney was shot outside of Lange's deli in Chappaqua as he was grabbing his morning breakfast.

Recounting the terrifying moments in court, Charney asked that Choa receive the maximum sentence of 25 years in prison for his action.

"There is no doubt that Hengjun Chao attempted to murder me and I repeat that, he attempted to murder me. For me, it is a living, breathing memory. He shot me a close-range with a shot gun," Charney said.

Hengjun Chao received a sentence of 28 years in prison for the attempted murder and assault on his former boss doctor Dennis Charney.

Chao’s attorney tells FiOS1 News that he will be filing an appeal.
