Gov. Mario M. Cuomo Bridge opens partially for Rockland-bound drivers

The second span of the bridge is expected to be completed in the fall

Four lanes are now open to drivers on the first span of the Mario M. Cuomo Bridge headed westbound from Westchester to Rockland County.

Four years in the making, residents living nearby say that the new bridge is much easier on the eyes than its predecessor.

"It's impressive," said Ken Barrios of Valhalla. "And the most impressive thing is that it was done on time."

In the fall, Westchester-bound traffic will be shifted from the old Tappan Zee Bridge to the first span of the new bridge.
