Mount Vernon School District implements mandatory uniform code

Students will be heading back to school with the new dress code this year

This year, the Mount Vernon School District has implemented a mandatory uniform code.

Boys will wear khaki pants and burgundy-colored shirts. Girls can wear either a khaki skirt or khaki pants with a burgundy-colored shirt or a khaki dress.

Most parents believe the change will help save time and money.

"You don't have to worry about what to wear in the mornings,” says parent Shernon Witter. “When you come home in the evening, you can pick your outfit for the next day because you know what you are going to wear. It's inexpensive. No one bullies you and says, I don't like your shoes, or I don't like your dress."

It's a busy time for local uniform shops as students head back to school. Stores will be supplying Mount Vernon parents with uniforms for students pre-K through 8th grade.

Mount Vernon parents are able to receive a discount if they shop with Cookie's, a Bronx-based company.
