Ramapo community volunteers donate, aid hurricane relief

Volunteers have collected donations at the Rockland County Fire Training Center since Thursday and will send supplies to Puerto Rico

In Ramapo, volunteers spent their Saturday collecting supplies to ship to Puerto Rico for hurricane relief.

"My family is from Puerto Rico. Puerto Ricans are Americans and I feel like it's important that we help out and do as much as we can if possible," says New City resident Veronica Calore.

The Rockland County Fire Training Center is continuing its donation efforts.

"Water, blankets, tarps, batteries, flashlights, hygiene products, those are the types of things we're collecting. We're collecting off a very specific list that has been given to us," says Rockland County Social Services Commissioner Joan Silvestri.

Volunteers have been collecting donations at this location since Thursday, and the will eventually load the supplies onto a plane and taken to Puerto Rico.
