Voters left disappointed by 2nd debate between Latimer, Astorino

Attendees at the second debate said the candidates spent too much time sniping at each other and not debating the issues

Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino and his challenger, State Sen. George Latimer engaged in a heated debate on Tuesday evening, their first in a space open to the public.

But those who attended the event at Iona College say they were left disappointed by the candidates.

"They both just kind of avoided questions and took shots at each other, so it wasn't super helpful," said Michael Guy of Mamaroneck.

"I was disappointed by the tone in general, and that it was so attacking," said Stephanie Clapes of New Rochelle. "I felt in a certain way it was degrading to me as a voter and my intelligence as a voter. I would have liked to have more focus on the issues and less on trying to detract one another."

Topics brought up at the debate included taxes, the Westchester County Airport deal, Indian Point and the Westchester County Gun Show.
