Cuomo announces new project to ease traffic woes near Woodbury Common

The $150M project will upgrade the Route 17 interchange

HARRIMAN — Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced a $150 million project to replace the Route 16 interchange near the Woodbury Common outlet mall in Central Valley on Wednesday.

"The interchange is poorly designed, can't handle volume, should have been done 20 years ago," said Cuomo.

Construction is expected to begin next year, and should take around 5 years to complete. The project will allow drivers going to the mall separate access on Route 17, meaning drivers headed there can bypass traffic. Cashless tolls will also be installed to help speed up traffic.

It is unclear how many jobs the project will create, but Cuomo says that only union workers will be hired.
