Concerns over Cuomo's efforts to work around federal tax law

Some local officials say that Cuomo's plan will incur added expenses for local governments

When congress passed the new federal tax law in December, it capped the state and local tax deduction at $10,000. The cap will have a particularly bad effect for people in our area, as residents in the tri-state deducted $20,000 on average.

In response, Governor Andrew Cuomo and other New York lawmakers say they believe they have found a way where residents can still deduct more, by having local schools, counties and municipalities set up a charitable fund where a portion of the money contributed will go to whichever entity sent yo a bill, and a small percentage willl be donated to charity.

But some local officials, like Mount Pleasant Town Supervisor Carl Fulgenzi say that Cuomo's plan may mean added expenses for local governments who cannot afford it.
