Dogs rescued from Hurricane Harvey seek new home

The survivors are currently being taken care of at the Humane Society of Walden

Ken is a terrier mix with a big heart. He's a survivor, just one of the many dogs to escape Hurricane Harvey.

He made the journey north to the Humane Society of Walden in Walden about a week ago.

He's 1 of 54 dogs rescued by Brother Wolf Animal Rescue who partnered with several Hudson Valley animal rescue groups.

"He would have been euthanized to make room for all the strays lost during the hurricane,” said Tracey Carvell of the Humane Society of Walden.

She couldn't let that happen so she pooled her resources to take in 7 of the 54 dogs to lessen the load on shelters in flooded areas.

"It was a big rush to save as many lives as possible," Carvell said.

Four of the rescued pups got adopted Saturday. Ken and two other dogs are now waiting patiently for their forever homes.

"I think anybody would be great for him, definitely active, he would love a family," she said.

If you can't adopt, you can always make a donation.
