Electrical fire forces hundreds to evacuate an office complex in Harrison

Some patients were undergoing medical procedures at the time of the evacuation

Hundreds of workers were forced to evacuate from a Harrison office complex at 450 Mamaroneck Avenue after an electrical vault began smoking.

Patients in wheelchairs who had just undergone medical procedures at Sono Bello, a cosmetic surgery clinic, were wheeled out during the ordeal.

One woman who came to the building to bring her mom lunch was scared when she couldn't find her.

"I was really scared because she’s an older woman and wanted to make sure she was okay,” said Cindy Ambroshio of Portchester.

In the end, Ambrosio was able to locate her mother.

The Harrison Fire Department says an electrical vault sparked inside the building around 1:30 p.m. Crews waited for Con Edison to turn off the power so they could investigate.

The Harrison fire chief said fumes from the vault could have brought carbon monoxide into this building.

After the employees were let into the building to retrieve their personal belongings, the building was then entirely closed off.

It’s not clear what caused the fire and the building has since been reopened.
