NYACK — Hundreds of people lined the streets on Thursday to pay their respects to New York City Fire Department hero Joseph Stach Jr.

Stach was a 9/11 first responder who had been battling several illnesses related to that dreadful day in history.

"We worked together every day," said John Pellegrinelli. "He made me feel very comfortable. He was a great guy."

Even while receiving treatment for pancreatic cancer, his friends and family say he remained positive, staying involved in the community and coaching little league football.

Stach leaves behind a wife and five children. He was 51 years old.
