Police say a man from Hillburn went on a racially-charged rampage in Suffern targeting Hispanic men.

Suffern detectives say 21-year-old Rushane Mitchell attacked two Hispanic men in the downtown area sometime before 3 a.m. Sunday.

Officers received calls throughout the night reporting a man who had been yelling racial slurs and assaulting groups of Hispanic men on Chestnut Street and Lafayette Avenue.

One man was allegedly beaten by Mitchell in a grocery store parking lot. Police say he was later taken to the hospital for a serious head wound that needed several stitches.

Police say this attack happened just moments after Mitchell beat another Hispanic in an unprovoked assault.

Police are investigating Mitchell’s motives and what led to the assaults. He is charged with second-degree assault, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.

He's being held at the Rockland County Jail on $25,000 bail.

Suffern police are asking anyone with information regarding these assaults that appear to be racially motivated to contact them.
