Port Chester interfaith vigil calls for solidarity in wake of violence in Charlottesville

Vigil held at Lyon Park Gazebo also served as memorial to Heather Heyer, 32, killed during protest against white supremacist rally

An interfaith vigil was held Tuesday evening in Port Chester, calling for love and inclusion in the wake of the racially-charged violence in Charlottesville, Virginia just over a week ago.

Held at the Lyon Park Gazebo, the vigil featured music and a call to action. Organizers called it an opportunity to come together in solidarity against bigotry during a time when racial and political tension across the country is high.

The vigil also served as a memorial to Heather Heyer, the 32-year-old activist who was killed when a white reputed Nazi sympathizer rammed into a group of counter protesters during a white supremacist rally in Charlottsville, Virginia on Aug. 12.
