JC Penney has released a list of 138 stores that it plans to close, including two locations here in the Hudson Valley.

Shoppers frequenting the JC Penney store at the Palisades Mall in Nyack will have to shop elsewhere as this and another 137 JC Penney stores across the nation will begin liquidating its merchandise starting in April.

According to the company, in an effort to advance profits and growth, JC Penney is shutting down the 138 stores. Some customers say it was only a matter of time before the department store giant began declining.

About 5,000 positions will be impacted by the closures. JC Penney says they are providing outplacement support services for eligible associates who will be leaving the company.
