Fire at cosmetics factory in New Windsor causes air quality concerns

State DEC monitor runoff, to prevent exposure to silver stream

NEWBURG — St. Luke's in Newberg admitted up to 50 people after an explosion.

Hospital officials encourage people who were at the plant or live nearby to visit the hospital if they don't feel good from being outside.

The factory worked with chemicals, and air quality is a concern.

Authorities believe the main chemical involved in the accident is alcohol based, but say for now the air appears to be safe to breathe.

The accident happened around 10:15 a.m.

The State Department of Environmental Conservation is also monitoring runoff from the facility to prevent it from getting into the silver stream.

DEC commissioners will be monitoring the air, long-term.
