Heavy rain causes bus carrying special needs adults to crash into car in Westchester County

There were no injuries, authorities say

WACCABUC — Bad weather caused a two-car accident Tuesday morning on School House Road in Waccabuc.

The driver of a bus carrying nine young adults with special needs says the accident occurred around 8 a.m.

"I was driving southbound on Route 121. A red Nissan traveling northbound on Route 121 collided against the bus as I was making a left turn," says bus driver, Ramon Velazquez.

The bus driver says weather and speed were factors in the accident.

"It was very inclement weather. It was raining very hard and it was dark," says Velazquez.

There were 11 people on the bus, including nine young adults, an aid, and the driver.

According to the driver, the group was en route to the Young Adults Institute in Tarrytown when the accident occurred. Another bus arrived to transport the passengers to their final destination.

Police say there were luckily no injuries.
