Pelham Memorial HS students organize a walkout, protest lack of gun laws

Principal Clark says she is proud of her students, even though the district is not taking an official political stance

PELHAM — Students at Pelham Memorial High School will participate in a nationwide 17-minute walkout on March 14, leaving class in support of stricter gun laws and to keep them safer at school. The demonstration comes after the school shooting in Parkland, Florida.

"They want to be heard,” said Pelham Memorial High School Principal Jeannine Clark. “They are bright young people that have a lot to say."

The demonstration will begin in front of the school at the flagpole, but if the crowd gets too big, the school may have to relocate students to the back fields.
