Rep. Lowey returns from Puerto Rico, thanks Haverstraw for Hurricane Maria donations

The Senate will vote on a $36.5B aid package passed by the House

HAVERSTRAW — Congresswoman Nita Lowey returned to the Lower Hudson Valley from Puerto Rico Tuesday to thank Rockland County leaders for collecting aid for Hurricane Maria victims.

Lowey described roads washed away, broken generators, and many people without water and power

"Forty-nine people that have lost their lives, some were telling me, it may be as high as 500 but they don’t know because they can't get to those areas," says Lowey.

Last week, the House passed a $36.5 billion aid package with money to help Puerto Rico, and the Senate will vote on it this week.

The Rockland County Fire Training Center in Pomona is still accepting donations. For more information on drop-off locations, visit the Town of Haverstraw's website.
