Minivan strikes bicyclist in Chestnut Ridge

Residents say they are concerned about biker safety after accident

CHESTNUT RIDGE — A road in Ramapo is back open after a bicyclist was hit by a minivan Tuesday night. The accident has left many residents concerned for biker and pedestrian safety on Chestnut Ridge Road.

The bicyclist, who has not been identified, was rushed to Westchester Medical Center. There is no word on the victim's condition.

One teenager who lives nearby wants something to be done to make biking safer.

"I always bike here and walk here. It's very scary for me to see what is going on. Just to see this happen ... they need to get sidewalks and street lights," said David Sussman of Spring Valley.

Chestnut Ridge Road was closed for several hours for the investigation but has since re-opened. There is no word if the driver will be charged.
