Church in Newburgh looks to help those affected by cosmetics warehouse fire

Northeast Gateway to Freedom collects food donations for Verla employees

NEWBURGH — At Northeast Gateway to Freedom, the boxes are lined up for food donations.

On Tuesday, Pastor Rosey Lawal says these boxes will be filled with food to deliver to Verla International workers and their families. Since the factory explosion two weeks ago that killed one person and injured more than 100 people, more than 200 employees have been out of work. Pastor Lawal says they've been putting a list together to help those in need and, so far, have delivered food to more than 20 families.

As the community waits for answers on whether the factory will reopen, the donations continue to pour in at the Christian Life Center.
