Men sentenced for September 2016 death of FDNY chief

Garibaldi Castillo, Julio Salcedo express remorse over the passing of Michael Fahy

BRONX, N.Y. — Garivaldi Castillo and Julio Salcedo pleaded guilty on Friday for manslaughter in the death of FDNY Battalion Chief Michael Fahy. Castillo will serve between two to six years in prison, while Salcedo will serve a maximum of four years.

Authorities say that the two men were growing marijuana inside of a home in September 2016 when Fahy and other first responders were called to the scene for a reported gas leak. Castillo and Salcedo had the windows closed in the home, which caused an explosion where Fahy was struck and killed by debris. Several first responders were also injured.

September will mark two years since the passing of Fahy.
