PORT CHESTER — Metro-North commuters are feeling the pain of a budget again with the MTA chugging towards another fare increase in 2019. The MTA board approved a $16.2 billion budget for 2018 and a 4-year spending plan that includes the hike which would begin in 2019. The plan calls for a 4 percent jump beginning Jan. 1 2019, as well as 4 percent fare increases every other year. MTA officials say without the long-term plan, the fare hikes would continue for a longer period of time.

MTA officials say if the fare hikes do not go into place, the MTA will have a $1.5 billion budget gap by the year 2021.
