Mount Vernon residents vow to move on with or without Mayor Thomas

Richard Thomas to continue role as mayor as felony charges loom overhead

MOUNT VERNON — Residents in Mount Vernon were shocked to hear about Mayor Richard Thomas’ arraignment on felony charges Monday morning. Some say that they have not lost confidence in their city government, but their sentiments are almost there.

While Thomas says that he will continue in his role as mayor during the investigation, city council will have to comply with any part of the inquiry requested by Attorney General Eric Schneiderman.

During his announcement of the charges, Schneiderman said to the residents of Mount Vernon, “We encourage all residents of Mount Vernon to read the filings for themselves to understand exactly what your mayor has been up to.”

And though many residents voted for the mayor, they say that Mount Vernon will go on without him if necessary.
