Person struck and killed by train in Valhalla

The incident caused delays as officials investigated

VALHALLA — An unidentified person died after being struck by a train heading towards Grand Central Terminal in Valhalla on Sunday morning.

Trains were held in both directions, causing many delays as crews investigated the scene.

It isn’t the first fatal train accident at the Commerce Street crossing. In 2015, a fatal crash involved a train plowing into an SUV, killing six people. The MTA and the state Department of Transportation considered closing the street crossing, but that never happened.

Officials are still investigating what they believe may be a case of suicide but that has not yet been confirmed.
