Police chase puts Cross River schools on lockout, causing heavy traffic

Parents waited hours to pick up their kids as a result

CROSS RIVER — Parents waited in a long line of heavy traffic in Cross River after John Jay High School and middle school were put on lockout right before the school day was ending.

The lockout was a result of a police chase that started out as a police stop in North Salem and ended in Lewisboro on Wednesday.

"The vehicle did crash at this location behind me and two subjects did flee on foot," State Police Captain David Atkins said.

Captain Atkins said the driver of the car has been taken into custody but he did not say why the car was initially stopped in North Salem by a police officer.
