Sobriety check points to be put in place during Memorial Day weekend

Police department says to take Uber, Lyft if drinking

NEW CITY – The Rockland County police department announced that there will be sobriety check points throughout the county Memorial Day weekend during a press conference at the Rockland County Sheriff's office. Law enforcement says they are putting the check points up to catch people breaking the law. According to law enforcement, last year they made over 830 DWI arrests.

The department said if you do go out and plan to have a drink, appoint a designated driver or use an Uber or Lyft to get home.

Anastasia Karassik lost her 13-year-old daughter, Arissa Karassik, during a Memorial Day weekend due to a drunk driver. The mother has dedicated her life to helping put an end to drunk driving by raising awareness about the dangers involved.

"If you put others’ lives at risk, there will be consequences. Remember, driving is a privilege, not a right," a New York State Police spokesperson said.
