Community gathers to celebrate the life of Donovan Brown

Street sign on MacQuesten Parkway dedicated to slain youth

MOUNT VERNON — The City of Mount Vernon unveiled a street signed dedicated to Donovan Brown on Monday. The 24-year-old was shot and killed in March near MacQuesten Parkway.

Brown would have been 25 on Monday, and many of his friends and family gathered on MacQuesten Parkway to celebrate his birthday and his service of working within the community.

"To the youth of our city who represented the future, and we have stopped to recognize Donovan Brown on his birthday because we understand we had to do anything we can to honor his legacy," Mayor Richard Thomas said.

Three suspects are currently held in custody in relation to Brown's death.
