Thousands walk to ‘break the hold’ of mental illness in Pleasantville

Community hopes to light the way towards youth wellness

PLEASANTVILLE — Thousands of students from the Pleasantville High School and community members completed a 2.5-mile walk Sunday morning to shine a light on teen suicide.

Participants of the Break the Hold Foundation Walk carried a small light in their hands, shining a light on mental health illness in honor of the life of Brian Thomas Halloran who suffered from a mental health illness. He was a student at Pleasantville High School who committed suicide in January.

"You have to break the hold on people with mental illnesses," said Alex O’Reiloy said.

The foundation was established by the Halloran family with the mission to promote youth wellness, development, and to advocate an action plan to raise mental health awareness.

“You have to show them that tomorrow is another day," O’Reiloy said.
