Virginia Perez confronts Democratic 'political establishment'

NY Senate candidate to challenge Andrea Stewart Cousins in September primaries

YONKERS — Westchester County Leg. Virginia Perez wants to unseat the New York Senate's Democratic leader, Sen. Andrea Stewart Cousins. However, according to Perez, the Democratic establishment doesn't want her to challenge Stewart Cousins even though she and her supporters collected enough signatures to get on the ballot.

"The political establishment said for me not to do this," Perez said. "They demanded that I not do this. And they said, by me challenging an entrenched self-serving politician is me committing political suicide."

Perez says that New York Democrats are worried more about power rather than services throughout the state. So, work never gets done. And she believes that her opponent is part of the problem.
