Westchester health services become target of political opponents

George Latimer directs blame to Rob Astorino on budget cuts

MOUNT VERNON – Sen. George Latimer, Democratic nominee for Westchester County Executive, held a press conference in Mount Vernon Tuesday to discuss budget cuts proposed by County Executive Rob Astorino to health services in Westchester.

Latimer is challenging Astorino for his job in November. Surrounded by local officials at the Mount Vernon neighborhood health center, Latimer discussed what he calls the "dismal effects" of Astorino's budget cuts to health services during his tenure as County Executive – including cuts to local health care centers, daycares, women’s health services and mental health services.

According to Latimer, Astorino has cut millions of dollars in funding to community health centers throughout his eight-year tenure.

In the wake of President Donald Trump's elimination of Obamacare subsidies to insurers, Latimer and his supporters say they are fearful of the impact that will be felt on the local level.
