Westchester officials override Rob Astorino’s budget veto

The new budget includes a 2 percent property sales tax increase

WHITE PLAINS — Westchester County legislators voted unanimously to override outgoing County Executive Rob Astorino's veto of their proposed plan.

Astorino vetoed the legislator's proposed budget earlier this year which got rid of the $29 million airport privatization deal and also included a 2 percent property sales tax increase. The tax increase has received the most attention among county residents but county legislators claim it’s a small increase. Majority Leader Catherine Borgia says that a house valued at $500,000 results in about a $31 increase.

In the final showdown between county legislators and the county executive, a bi-partisan effort helped push the budget through.
