A Westchester County police helicopter was forced to make an emergency landing alongside the Palisades Parkway in New Jersey, after the pilot smelled smoke in the cockpit. Fortunately, no one was injured.

It happened just past State Line Lookout Park on the Palisades Parkway going north, and police are now blocking the entrance of that park.

A Westchester County police helicopter was called to assist in the search of a lost hiker.

The helicopter had a two-person crew — a technical flight officer and a police officer pilot.

Authorities say the pilot smelled smoke in the helicopter and needed to look for a place to land quickly.

They found the State Line Lookout Park scenic vista on the Palisades Parkway going north and that's where they made the emergency landing.

The landing happened at about 10:17 a.m. The incident has not impacted traffic on the parkway.
