Nanuet man pleads guilty to using 10-year-old’s social security number to buy cars

Andree Mendez must repay more than $14K to Honda, $16K to Toyota

YONKERS – Officials said Andree Mendez, 26, used a 10-year-old’s social security number along with forged work documents to buy a 2017 Toyota Camry S-E from Westchester Toyota in Yonkers in February 2017. The next day, he allegedly used the boy's social security number to buy a 2017 Honda Accord sport from White Plains Honda. Mendez was first indicted back in April, but on Wednesday changed his plea to guilty.

Mendez allegedly drove both vehicles but never made payments towards them.

Prosecutors said he created a fake ID with his name and birth date but using a 10-year-old's social security number. Officials said Mendez was able to use the child's identity because banks had no record of his social security.

As part of his guilty plea, Mendez must repay more than $14,000 to Honda and more than $16,000 dollars to Toyota to cover the cost of both vehicles.

Mendez is scheduled to be sentenced on Nov. 7 and faces a year in prison. He will also lose his license for a total of six months.
