What you should know about the lack of fluoride in drinking water in 2 Westchester towns

NWJWW shut down its fluoride feed system and doesn't expect it to come back online for a few years

Share

Two Westchester County towns impacted by a shutdown of a water treatment facility are now unable to add fluoride to drinking water.

At the Catskill facility for Northern Westchester Joint Water Works, the water supply for two towns, Somers and Yorktown, comes from this facility and recently the facility has shut down its fluoride feed system and doesn't expect it to come back online for a few years.

What this means for residents is the facility isn't fluoridating water in Somers and Yorktown, so the water, while safe to drink, does not have fluoride in it.

This is a concern for parents with children because fluoride helps reduce cavities

Parents concerned about fluoride should reach out to their pediatrician or dentist on advice as to what to do.
