New details have emerged in a homicide investigation in Putnam County. Police confirmed on Wednesday that a man found dead in West Harrison murdered his relative in Mahopac last week.

Authorities briefed the media at the Town Hall in Mahopac and said 69-year-old Felippo Buffone committed suicide Tuesday near his West Harrison home after he shot and killed 75-year-old Perla Gatchalian at her Mahopac home over a financial dispute. Buffone was Gatchalian’s daughter's father in-law.

Buffone allegedly shot and killed Gatchalian inside her home last week over a financial dispute.

Police say during their search of a wooded area in Yorktown, they recovered what they believe was the murder weapon. Buffone did not have a criminal record.

The investigation is still ongoing by the Carmel Police Department, state police and Harrison police, but at this time it's not believed anyone else was involved in Gatchalian's murder.
