Mamaroneck unveils new school speed zone signs ahead of start of classes

Village has been asking for a reduced school zone speed limit around both Mamaroneck High School and Hommocks Middle School

Next time you drive by some Mamaroneck schools, you'll see new school speed zone signs. This comes after nearly a year of work at the state and local level.

The people of Mamaroneck have been asking for a reduced school zone speed limit around both Mamaroneck High School and Hommocks Middle School for some time. And with kids heading back to school next week, they finally have their wish.

If you're behind the wheel on Boston Post Road between the hours of 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday to Friday, you will no longer be able to exceed 20 miles per hour around both schools.

Democratic Assemblyman Steve Otis and State Senator George Latimer, who is running for county executive, announced Tuesday the new restrictions placed on drivers and unveiling the new signs.

The 'school crossing ahead' posts are placed between Mamaroneck town center and Richbell Road.

Along with the signs, state DOT will also allow the village to install pavement markings identifying the school zone as you approach Mamaroneck High School in each direction.
