Rally demands more environmental tests of Tuckahoe site planned for Marriott Hotel

In a 3 to 2 vote, Tuckahoe’s Planning Board approved Wednesday night for a future Marriott Hotel to be located on what has been called an old toxic waste site.

Over the last several months, residents have raised concerns about the type of chemicals that may resurface if the old dumping site on Marbledale Road is redeveloped. But an environmental attorney for the hotel project claims the developers have gone above and beyond with testing the site.

Residents at the last planning board meeting held signs outside and sported masks inside to prove a point, but in that meeting, the board decided the hotel did not have to do an environmental impact study before construction.

And now that the board has approved the hotel, some residents are still putting up a fight, claiming on Facebook that the board members who voted in favor, voted shamefully with total disregard to their health.

According to published reports, the hotel could break ground within the next few months.
