Charities fear GOP tax bill will stunt charitable giving across the nation

Some less likely to itemize their donations on their future tax returns

NANUET — The new GOP tax bill has many nonprofit organizations around the country on edge. Officials from the National Council for Nonprofits say various changes in the tax bill will reduce the tax incentive for giving back to communities by up to $20 billion.

Officials say some people will not be able to itemize their donations on their upcoming tax returns, which will affect monetary gifts to a number of charities across the county.

Nonprofit representatives say a loss in donations will also affect nearly 250,000 jobs. They hope government aid will increase if charitable giving begins to decrease.
