Nursing home in New Rochelle conducts chemical spill drill

Mock disaster is part of new requirement by healthcare providers

The staff at United Hebrews Nursing Home in New Rochelle was evacuated during a mock chemical spill Friday.

Once everyone was evacuated the New Rochelle Fire Department arrived to the scene and set up an emergency command center.

Once suited up, the firefighters went inside the building to retrieve the mock victim. The contaminated victim would be hosed down inside a tent, then released and checked before going to EMS.

The drill could not have been done without the hard work of the New Rochelle Fire Department.

The drill response is also part of a new requirement by healthcare providers.
